NYC Day Two (Ben’s Post)
Sunday, 9:49 PM EDT
Sarah just told me she loves our toiletries. They’re made by a company called Gilchrist & Soames. I’m not going to lie to you, they smell good. Right before that a man knocked on the door and brought a shave kit, kit rasage if you speak French. Sarah forgot her razor and for both our sakes she thought it a good idea to shave her legs. We arrived back at the hotel about 15 minutes ago. We hailed a cab at 53rd and between 6th and Broadway, paying six bucks for a half-mile trip. We drove through Times Square and avoided a walk in a cold wind, so the taxi ride was well worth it. Before we were picked up we passed two halal stands, 62 people lined up between the two of them for a late evening falafel or gyro. It would normally have smelled delicious, but due to our full stomachs it was almost rancid. A half block back we filled up on Szechuan beef (made from New York strip) but it was over done. Sarah likes her steak well-done and I like it somewhere between medium-rare and medium, thus the over-grilled steak. Aside from that we had wasabi mashed potatoes and we think fried bean sprouts, both of which were pretty good, but none of it worth the Ben Franklin we gave them when we left. The restaurant was neat and it was a type of restaurant we wouldn’t normally call on, but I can’t say I’d recommend it. I preferred the walk past Rockefeller Center with the ice skaters and the lit up trees and the walk up 5th Avenue.
Sarah pointed out St. Patrick’s Cathedral which reminded me we still needed to get green shirts for tomorrow’s parade whether we go or we don’t. Finally, we passed Radio City Music Hall, toward the first part of our stroll, and I thought the signs were red in lettering but instead they are neon pink.
