It’s Finally Fall!
The weather has finally started to change. We had a cold front come through mid-day yesterday and the cooler temperatures have been nothing short of glorious.
We have been very busy since the last time I posted, but I guess that’s nothing new. Everyone is always busy; that’s just how life seems to be.
Ben and I both had Columbus Day off. The older I get, the less sure I am that we should be recognizing that guy with his own holiday…although I guess I’m grateful for that whole “discovering America” thing. In any case, it was really nice to have a three-day weekend to ourselves, especially given that my cousin Grace got married the following weekend and we only had to work two days last week. I have decided that a two-day work week is the wave of the future; if only the school district would catch on!
The election continues to loom ahead of us. I am thrilled that two weeks from now it will all be over. I’m so tired of the hype and the media and the tense emotions. And it bothers me that people are all up in arms about the issues now, but come November 5th, we’ll all slip back into apathy. But then again, maybe our post-election complacency will allow us to look past our differences and be friends again.
Ben and I are hoping to vote early. We tried to go on Tuesday, but he did not get off work until later than anticipated, so we didn’t make it to the polls in time. He’s supposed to be off early today, so maybe we’ll try again. If you live in the Dallas area, you might want to check out The Voter Guide; I found it immensely helpful. First, you input your address and it pulls up the ballot choices for your area. Then, you can go through each race on the ballot and compare candidates side by side. Once you’ve made your choices, you can print out the whole thing and take it with you to your polling place. Love it!
Final thought for the day: I am a huge fan of Starbucks hot chocolate. I had my first cup of the season last night and it was every bit worth the burned tongue I have this morning. Tall, non-fat, extra hot peppermint hot chocolate – no whip. sigh. If there were a Starbucks on my way to work, I’d stop all the time.
